Think Faster Focus Beter Remember More Postit Science

Above is a 5 minture trailer from a new PBS feature about new breakthroughs in understanding the brain. I have posted about the PBS series on brain fitness and neuroscience which has been featured on PBS starting the two shows called The Brain Fitness Program.

This newest program in the series is called Brain Fitness Frontiers and it explores how ordinary people are utilizing their brain plasticity to create lasting and astonishing life changes.

The program spotlights areas where the latest discoveries from neuroscience have been applied to important areas such as aging and recovery from traumatic injury.  It spotlights the key discovery which is neuroplasticity which means that the brain can adapt and change throughout the human, which until recently neuroscientiists thought was impossible.

As in the previous programs,  Brain Fitness Frientiers is narrated by Peter Coyote. This new program takes you on a tour of research labs and features interviews with luminaries of neuroscience and medicine including Dr. Michael Merzenich (of Posit Science), Dr. Skip Rizzo, Dr. John Donoghue, and many more. Also featured are interviews on some of the people the new research has helped.

We’re getting to know the brain better and better.. Something that really helps improve the main cognitive functions are brain games. The effectiveness of brain games related to brain fitness is a topic of ongoing research. It all starts with the question: how do you measure the effectiveness ? We offer online brain training games on our website http://braingymmer.com, dedicated as we are to making the most effective brain training games on the planet we find the question “do brain training games really work?” very interesting of course. We work together with universities here in the Netherlands to research this. There is also another angle: if you ask the users of our BrainGymmer product if they find they experience improved memory, visual perception etc, there is a large proportion of users that report improved cognitive skills. They are less forgetful, or can concentrate better at work. This may not be a measured improvement, but nevertheless this perceived improvement of brain fitness is extremely valuable and I am convinced there is a large group of people for which this kind of brain training really works to improve brain fitness.
