Get a Free Trial of Mindjet Mindmanager for Windows of Macintosh
Earlier this month, I posted about the imminent release of the breakthrough mind mapping software NovaMind v5. Since that time, a lot of you have emailed me to ask what software (if any) I use personally for mind mapping.
I actually use several programs but the one I use most frequently is the mind mapping program that I started with and have used for years. — considered by many the “gold standard” genre – Mind jet’s MindManager.
Mind Manager is now out in Version 2012 for Windows which uses an interface almost identical to Microsoft Office 2010. The folks at MindJet have also released more recently issued a version for the Macintosh.

The core concept behind mind mapping software like MindManager is that the way we think and conceptualize does not always fit a hierarchical written outline.
For many tasks and project, creating visual mind maps is a more intuitive and accurate way to represent our ideas. Instead of topics and subtopics, you create nodes for topic and subtopics that branch out from those nodes.
You can expand or contract each node and look at the map in whatever order you want rather than just sequentially as in outlines.
Mindmanger allows you learn as you go to create simple maps and also to create complex and interlinked multiple mind maps maps.
You can use the program to create a basic mind map, either from scratch or using variety of supplied template. Once you have developed a basic structure, can begin to organize and embellish your map with a outside files using many different formats.
The software connects automatically to different Microsoft Office files, so you can import files from Outlook, Word and several other programs. This ability to connect all of the information on a task or project and link them together provides additional power to mind mapping.
This ability to link together all of the information you have about your project brings an additional dimension to the usefulness of mind mapping.
Some of the befits mind mapping using MindManager include
- Visually capturing, organizing, and communicating ideas and information effectively.
- Facilitating the rapid development of new ideas
- Acclerating project and process planning yeilding increases productivity.
- Capturing graphically complex issues,
- Enhancing the quality of strategic thinking
- Collaboration and the improvement in communication between individuals and teams
- identifying next steps in a project
